Assemblymember Olsen Named to New Statewide Effort to Create Jobs

SAN DIEGO – Assemblymember Kristin Olsen today announced that she has been appointed by Speaker John Perez as a member of the Select Committee on Job Creation for the New Economy. Olsen participated in a press conference in San Diego with Speaker Perez and Committee Chairman Nathan Fletcher to discuss the goals of the new committee.  The newly formed committee will focus on steps needed to ensure California is a competitive place to create good paying jobs in the new economy.   “I’m honored to be appointed to serve on this select committee dedicated to creating jobs, especially when my district is experiencing unemployment rates as high as 17%,” said Assemblymember Olsen.

“I’m optimistic that real solutions will come from this committee and help return California to the ‘Golden’ State.” The Select Committee on Job Creation for the New Economy will: ·         Investigate steps needed to ensure California is a competitive place to create good paying local jobs in the new economy.   ·         Highlight individuals and companies within and outside of California who are succeeding and creating cutting-edge products and jobs, and identify things the state can do to help attract and retain them.   ·         Explore ways to attract private investment, including public-private partnerships, creative districts, industry clusters, and incubation strategies. ·         Identify roadblocks for job creators and make recommendations to eliminate them. ·         Probe the role of workforce readiness in primary, secondary, and post-secondary public education. Given the changing demands of the new economy, ensuring California students are prepared to compete is vital. “Creating high wage, private sector jobs and a prepared workforce should be the top priorities,” said Assemblymember Olsen. “This committee will help the State of California eliminate roadblocks that prevent businesses from having the tools needed for job creation.”  Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, represents the 25th Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Angels Camp, Chowchilla, Hughson, Mammoth Lakes, Mariposa, Modesto, Oakdale, Oakhurst, Riverbank, Sonora, and Waterford.
