“It’s not what you do, but rather why you do it.” – Interview with Kyran Enzi ~ By, Charity Maness

CABA (Copperopolis Area Business Association) President Kyran Enzi  began her journey to the presidency through years of community oriented services and achievements.

In the ‘80’s, noticing a trend toward home computer use and seeing a great need for education in that field, Kyran opened the Computer Career Center in Sonora. Soon thereafter, due to the success and high need, another school was opened in Arnold and yet another in Sacramento.

As if running her many school sites was not enough, Kyran began taking classes at Columbia College, where she found her passion…writing. After reading an article on the Vietnam War, though it had been over for more than 15 years, Kyran was moved by the story. She began to write a play based loosely on the story. She titled the play “SNAFU,” Situation Normal All F---- Up. Her classmates and professor embraced her play and coordinated with the drama department to turn Kyran’s written word into a live performance.

With auditions completed and actors assigned, the play took on a life of its own, recreating lines for actors or exchanging actors to better suit the lines. It was a work in progress until the opening curtain went up. SNAFU received rave reviews and Kyran was hooked. (SNAFU was the last play to be performed at the Columbia College Theater.)

Known to her friends, students and co-workers as the ‘grammar slammer’ Kyran found she edited anything that came across her desk containing the written word. She soon began an additional business of online editing.

Moving to Copper in 2005 Kyran embraced the community and loved the friendly business environment. She quickly found herself involved in CABA and with her extensive writing background, began the Copper View, a quarterly newspaper highlighting the businesses and people of Copper. She loved the interview process and the interesting people she met. Though the Copper View slowed down in production in the last few years, many people still have a collection of them in their homes.

As President and founder of a non-profit corporation titled Enzi Family Support Fund, Kyran is an avid supporter of cancer research for the treatment of Ovarian cancer. Though the fund was set up to aid a family member, Kyran’s hopes are that one day the Enzi Family Support Fund will be able to help other families in crisis.

With this interview, Kyran announced her resignation as President of CABA stating, “My hope is that CABA events will continue…and that there is someone out there who has ‘fire in their belly’ to bring cohesiveness among all our merchants and promote them locally, county-wide and beyond.”

Caring for her 93 year old mother and acting as secretary/event coordinator of the Calaveras County Taxpayers Association has left little time for Kyran to pursue her passion and preside over CABA. Though it was a tough decision she knows there is someone out there that can do the job, and do it well; referring to Copper folks as “new pioneers” having a lot in common with the community builders of the 1800’s.

With husband and best friend, Al Segalla, by her side, Kyran is taking the next step in her journey, spending quality time with her best friend and dabbling with her passion...writing.
