Golden State Cellular News Release – Fraud Alert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jamestown, California. Golden State Cellular
Announces a “Fraud Alert” – A scam reported by cellular carriers across the country has surfaced in the Mother Lode. How it works: An individual randomly dials a cellular customer and announces themselves as a representative of the company and offers a prize or discount. They then ask for information to verify the account such as name, password, last four digits of social security number, etc. Armed with the proper information they then call the carrier and represent themselves as the customer and request changes to the account allowing them access. Golden State Cellular would like to make consumers aware of this situation and suggest using caution when receiving a call requesting this type of information. One of the easiest ways to confirm the identity of the caller is to ask for their name and number and tell them you will call them back. Make sure the number is a verifiable “published” number. For instance, GSC customers would be instructed to call 611 from their GSC phones or to contact our call center at 800-453-8255. Both could be confirmed by visiting our webpage.
