Salt Spring's Valley Reservoir Bass Team Compete at Don Pedro

This month's tournament was held at Don Pedro on May 21, 2011.The weather was cloudy with light wind. The water was clear with a surface temperature of 63.9. The water was gin clear and the fish were skittish. Most of the fish were caught in 8 to 10 feet of water. New members, Richard Knigge  and Nick Chipponeri, took 1st place with a limit of 5 bass weighing a total of 10.26 lbs and big fish wieghing 2.66 lbs. Ralph and Eva Murphy took 2nd place with 4 fish for 8.68 lbs. In 3rd was Jerry Stoffers and Ray Nunes with 2 fish for 2.44 lbs. The majority of the fish came on 'do nothin' worms in candy watermelon green and #82 keeper 8" worms. Richard and Nick reported that they had a brief window on topwater baits early in the morning but were unable to boat any of the fish. We saw both Bald Eagles and one Golden Eagle. The golden came into a cove we were fishing and posed on a fallen tree for a picture.  Can't explain how good it feels to see these great birds making thier come back. Beautiful day, beautiful birds and a beautiful woman for your fishing partner, it don't get no better than that.
