BOS Transparency Still Available, Just at a Slower Rate

According to Madaline Krska, Clerk to the Board of Supervisors, meeting summaries have been discontinued due to cost. At the May 10, 2011 BOS meeting, a vote to discontinue the meeting summaries was passed 4-1. District 5 Supervisor Spellman explained that the vote was intended to reduce the cost of posting summaries in newsprint, something the county has been doing for some time but that is not required by law. Krska also said that this cut was “cost effective” explaining that due to budget cuts there is one board clerk covering many job duties.
Krska stated that the minutes of each meeting would be posted on the County website upon approval by the Board of Supervisors.  She said there will be a “two week lag time” from the initial meeting to the posting of the minutes. For example, Krska explained that the April 26, 2011 minutes were on the May 10th agenda for approval; once approved those minutes were posted by May 11th. The May 10 minutes are on the agenda for approval at the May 24th meeting. When they are approved they will be posted.
Krska did say that her office is open to questions that she has authority to answer regarding votes or issues on agendas that may have been passed but not posted yet.  She can be reached at 754-6371.
