Copperopolis Dog Whisperer, Karen Boucher

Karen Boucher of Canyon Hawk German Shepherds has been working with dogs since 1991. Competing in conformation shows, duck herding and sheep herding competitions and training therapy dogs have been her passion.
Now that her children are grown and have moved out, her love has turned to helping dog owners understand, train, and love their dogs.

Karen said that the first question a dog owner needs to ask themselves prior to hiring a trainer or attending a training course is, "What do you want to get out of the lesson?" If its socialization skills, Karen recommends a group setting. If its manners and how to communicate with your dog, then one on one is a better choice.

With today's lesson little Bella, a one year old Bichon Frise, was put through her paces, covering ground that was to be practiced from an earlier lesson and then building upon those earlier lessons. Bella showed that she had indeed learned how to heal and now knew that jumping was not acceptable. Emphasizing quiet authority and lots of love, Bella's owners learned the finer aspects of stay and come. Using Karen's techniques Bella caught on within the first few minutes.

While Karen primarily works with friends and family, she is available for a few new clients. If she is too busy she has many connections within the field and can refer a dog owner to an appropriate trainer.
